Solectek Announces Market Availability of 4G Mobile Broadband Network System in 700 MHz Frequency Band
The long-range solution with excellent indoor coverage is ideal for network operators and public safety networks in small cities and rural areas. The Solution targeted at service providers that are ready to deploy in 700 MHz now or pursuing federal broadband stimulus grants.

San Diego, California, July 22, 2009

Solectek Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wireless broadband equipment based in San Diego, CA, announced that its new mobile broadband platform operating in 700 MHz licensed frequency bands is now commercially available for US deployments. The SkyWay-Mobile Series is a complete system solution which consists of a base transceiver station (BTS), fixed and mobile subscriber terminals, element management system (EMS), and voice gateway. The system can be rolled out for a hybrid network where fixed desktop terminals and mobile USB modems can be supported by the same BTS.

The SkyWay-Mobile system incorporates a state-of-the-art smart antenna design that increases the link margin by 9 dB. Coupled with powerful tower-top amplifiers, the solution has very large coverage radius per BTS. “The system is extremely versatile in any settings. It is ideal for rural broadband applications where the large footprint is necessary to reflect low population density and yet, it could equally serve high-density application due to the low CPE costs and a large subscriber count per BTS,” says Dr. Eric Lee, CEO of Solectek. “We are proud to bring the first true mobile broadband solution to the market in the newly opened 700 MHz. The system is available for delivery at this time.” Operators can now submit grant applications for broadband infrastructure deployments to federal government agencies such as NITA and USDA. The application deadline for Phase I of these federal stimulus programs is August 14, 2009.

The SkyWay-Mobile system has the following unique features:

  • 15 Mbps net throughput per BTS, 4.8 bps/Hz efficiency
  • Best combination of OFDMA and CDMA
  • 8-element smart antenna array
  • Choice of antennas from sectoral to omni
  • Tower-top power amplifier system
  • Multiple choices of subscriber terminals
  • 1-5 MHz channel bandwidth, user configurable
  • Fast intercell handover (make before break)
  • “Quality of service” and “grade of service” features
  • Versatile frequency options including 700 MHz and 2.5 GHz

700 MHz frequency bands are seen as the battle ground for next generation mobile broadband services for carriers that are offering ever-enhanced mobile solutions and public safety networks with true broadband capabilities. “For the licensees, this is a golden opportunity. Solectek’s SkyWay-Mobile system can enable them to capitalize on that opportunity and realize revenues within months. The product is available now”, says Dr. Lee.
